The Suzuki method is based upon the pedagogy of Shinichi Suzuki, who believed that all children were capable of learning to play a musical instrument. Suzuki theorized that, just as all children can master their home language, they would be similarly capable of mastering the language of music. Contrary to many of the music learning methods of his time, Suzuki believed that music training should start as early as possible – mimicking how languages are learnt - so that music became a part of the child’s life.
The Suzuki method believes in developing the child as a whole being, not just their musical ability in isolation, and emphasised that the development of character came first, and music second.
